My first half-marathon was a success!!! I'm so glad I got it under my belt and now I know what to expect on the next ;) I'm glad I had my friend Kayli to train with or putting in all those miles could have gotten pretty hard on the cold mornings. It was actually really fun going on those long runs!
The morning of the race we woke up early and drove 45 minutes to Nebraska City. I, of course, had gotten a cold two days prior but I was determined to run and set a good PR for myself no matter what. We got there, tried to warm up as best as we could with the temperatures and the north wind that was blowing. We started and then I realized that there was no stopping from there. The first four to five miles were cold but the terrain wasn't too bad. Itwas from mile five on that we realized Nebraska wasn't as flat as we thought. Literally half or more of the race was STEEP hills and lots of inclines. It was nice not knowing beforehand the course but those hills were KILLER. I just told myself I wouldn't stop or walk up those things and I didn't! I was determined. I must be competitive or something haha. Anyways by the end I was exhausted and my chest tightened up the last mile due to my sickness but I still didn't stop. I crossed the finish at 1 hour 53 min. Kayli and I hung around for a while but we're tracing to we went and ate at Cracker Barrel. That was THEE BEST MEAL! We deserved it after running as far as we did...later come to find out that I actually got 3rd in my age division and that was kind of surprising but made me hopeful that I was still able to compete in something! Can't wait for my next one! .
