Surgery!

Braxton's surgery was yesterday and is THANKFULLY over! Now he is just in recovery which isn't very fun because of how much pain he is in! Poor little guy! It sure is crazy how much he tolerates now...sadly I think it's just from having to deal with it his whole 6 months of life but he is such a trooper and was smiling (once the anethesia had worn off) last night! I love this little guy! He definitely teaches us lessons each day. We are so thankful for amazing doctors and staff who do everything to make him better. Our Neurosurgeon is fantastic! He has been doing his job for 42 years so no worries there...he knows exactly what needs to be done. Marc and I have been sleeping on and off taking turns so one of us can be with Braxton at all times. Even though the nurses know what they are doing we still know Braxton and his needs so we make sure we stay involved with everything! As much as it would be nice to let the nurses take over...I just can't. I am too much of a mom now to let others take care of my baby! haha

This is Braxton at 8 am. At this point, it's only been an hour since his last drop of pedialite. He sure is happy hanging with dad! Little did he know that everything was going to be bad news for a while. :(

This is 30 min. later trying to get him to calm down so they can document that he is getting enough oxygen. It was really hard because he would go purple holding his breath cuz he was crying so bad...all they were doing was putting a thing on his foot. haha He knows exactly what is going on at this point. I am sure he was having NICU and surgery flash backs! I don't blame him for crying! You cry all you want buddy! He went to sleep about ten minutes later.

About an hour after that this was him (his so so cute hospital garb! I didn't think they made them so little and he looked so darling!!): content, chillin with mom, I thought we were in the clear! Literally 2 min after this picture he wasn't having it. The hunger pangs kicked in! I felt so bad because we couldn't explain to him why we were having to starve him (this is the worst part of surgery...bar none)! Marc took him for a while and like the amazing dad he is, he put him right back to sleep. :)

We handed the little man off to the anethesiologist and two ear tubes and one tethered spinal cord fixed later...

Braxton was in his hospital bed hooked up to all of these monitors. I am sure he was trying to devise a plan on how to get out and run away! haha They gave him a baby epidural! It is the tiniest thing! For a while he couldn't move his legs...if it's anything like when you are in labor there is no moving! He got plenty of rest and his little toys sure kept him company! He loves his toys! He looks pretty relaxed! haha My only complaint is that he will get so comfy and cozy like this and then the nurse comes in and has to wake him up and, most of the time, be pretty rough with him. I know they have to do their job but it sure is hard seeing him so happy.

This morning at like 3:30 he woke up and I was feeding him he was about to go back to sleep and the nurse came in and said he had kicked his iv out! Then she says that he has to have it put back in! I was so sad for him I told the iv team that his veins are really hard to find so try his left foot again...three pokes later they finally put it in his left foot. Braxton was in so much pain! Marc was sleeping and I don't do well with needles...but mom power pulls through and I didn't faint! Woo Hoo! haha

Thank goodness the surgery is over! Yay for Braxton!!!

Thanks for all of your love, support, and prayers! HOPEFULLY this is his last surgery...EVER!!! :)
