We left at 4 am on New Year's Day and we were wiped! We had just got done partying with family only a few hours prior. We got through security and found our seats to wait for our flight. Braxton is hard to fly with because of his different needs. We were trying to make sure the flights went just as smooth as they were on the way there. We all got to sit next to each other which made it easy for the kids to take turns sitting in the seat.
We asked the people at United if we could make sure our seats were by each other...we told them our son has special needs and we had to sit together. NOPE was the answer to anything we asked them.Very annoying so we talked to the people on the flight and thank goodness we had some nice people who were willing to trade seats with us.
First leg of the trip went good. No crazy hiccups and when we landed in Denver we were only a 1hr 20 min flight to being back in our beds. But...of course that wasn't going to happen. We found out that we had no connecting flight to Omaha because the crew didn't show up!!!! THE CREW DIDN'T SHOW UP! Ok. That's real professional. Come to find out that is very common when flying United Airlines. So, Marc went to go figure it out and me and the kids hung out by the window so we could see the planes. We had two sick kids with 100+ degree fevers and I was super sick as well. We were tired and only had the food for the kids that we had in our diaper bag. haha
Marc realizes quickly that they are not willing to help and we either had to drive to Omaha (a ten hour drive) which meant renting a car 300 bucks, buying a carseat for Braxton (100 bucks) and worrying about the weather. The other option was fly to De Moines, rent a car, buy a car seat, and worry about the weather. Lose, lose so we chose the De Moines route and settled in to airport living for a while. Oh, don't you worry though they gave us 3, 10 dollar vouchers for food. We decided to go to the nicest restaurant and used it all there. haha
We were all exhausted so while Marc was figuring some things out...like how to get our money back, Braxton, Millie, and I took a nap. That was one of the best naps ever! haha 6 hours later we were on our plane to De Moines. We had to probably switch with 7 people because they weren't willing to help us get seats by each other. Thanks to all the nice people who switched or I might have freaked out. haha
We land in De Moines at 630 and we were just so excited to get our baggage, get our rental, get a carseat and get home!
But...that is not how it happened. We waited and waited for our luggage...nothing! Our baggage didn't follow us and it was somewhere across the country. I couldn't help but laugh at the whole day. I don't remember being mad ever because it was just too funny! It was the worst traveling nightmare...the kind you see on movies and we were living it. It was so funny and the thing we wanted to do most was get in the car and go to walmart. haha
Millie did her best to help carry the only bag we had. haha |
EMPTY! No luggage here. |
We had such a great adventure and by the time we got home we were just ready to go to bed! At this time I could care less about our baggage and we finally got a good nights rest. The next day we got our baggage at 2 in the afternoon and I have never been so excited to unpack! ha
Many lessons learned with this experience...wouldn't trade it for anything but I don't think I would enjoy doing it again. haha Back to real life.

we had a problem like that with United once too. They were horrible. Something similar happened with southwest once, and they handled it sooo much better. I don't think I will ever fly United again. Both times I had Addie with me, which definitely makes it more interesting. Ha! Anyways, I'm glad you guys finally made it home!
The crew didn't show up?? How does that even become commonplace. Glad y'all got home to Wendy's okay. Wendy's makes a lot of things better.
WTF?!?! This is the worst and most ridiculous thin I have ever heard! That is like...the worst kind of nightmare! Oh my gosh...only you could be positive through something like that haha
