I found a new hobby the past month. Canning! I grew up helping and watching my mom and grandma can jelly, jam, apples, and peaches. It is a hobby that I wanted to pick up and be able to do for my kids. There is nothing better than making something homemade. It makes you feel like you accomplished something and gives you independence. Now that we are truly "on our own", I wanted to do a lot of things myself. So, my mother in law got me started by giving me her recipe for Chile Sauce, which is SO GOOD, and Marc could probably drink. haha When she gave me that recipe she told me that a canner at Walmart was only 18 dollars and the jars are cheap too! Perfect recipe for a fun hobby. So my weekly trips to the farmers market became the perfect place to get fresh produce since we can't have a garden where we live :(
Chile Sauce was probably the hardest one to do with all the chopping and cooking and once I realized I could do that...I went wild! haha
After canning Chile Sauce, strawberry jam, peach jam and apples came after! I couldn't stop! haha
Strawberry Jam was a success...I normally don't like it but for some reason making it myself made it taste really good! haha
Peach jam! Delish!
Sliced apples (thanks for the recipe mom!) Now I can make all the fall apple treats I want. Apple pie coming our way.
This was seriously the funnest thing ever! This will be an annual hobby! I am so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and tried it myself. Holla for trying new things! ;) Now I think I want toast with jam. haha
